Avery Weigh-Tronix Celebrates Safety Week

Inside a Busy Safety Week at Avery Weigh-Tronix

Toward the end of April, our Avery Weigh-Tronix Fairmont facility kicked off its third annual Safety Week. Safety Week is a great opportunity for our teams to engage with critical topics around workplace safety. From the benefits of an ergonomically sound workstation to Workplace Injury Reduction and Hazard Communications to even a CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification classes, Safety Week has quickly become an important annual tradition at AWTX that we ensure is jampacked with informational seminars.

When asked about how Safety Week 2025 went, Stephanie Coan AWTX’s Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator said “Safety week this year? Total win! We had a great refresher on our safety know-how, and we had some amazing new learning opportunities!”

We started off strong on Monday April 28th with representatives from Mayo Clinic who conducted ergonomic assessments of the workstations and daily tasks within our production area. This exercise allowed our Manufacturing Engineers and Team Leads to get valuable feedback on how our workstations are set up and how that can impact employee productivity and safety. Later that morning our General Manager Andrea Issendorf gave our Quarterly Business Communication Meeting with the goal that such an important update on the business would lead to greater engagement in Safety Week activities.

The next day our US Compliance Consultant, Kim Whaley, conducted Job Hazard Assessment training where she provided detailed examples of the best practices for completing these important assessments from a compliance perspective. Wednesday, April 30th Kim was back leading Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction and Hazard Communication training sessions. Both of these classes gave our team critical information on topics that can very well save lives.

We wrapped up Safety Week on Thursday May 1st with CPR/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training for our Medical Response Team and any other interested employees. To get an idea of how impactful this event was, I’ll let Stephanie take it from here, “One of the most impactful events for many of us was the CPR training class. It truly opened our eyes to the critical importance of this life-saving skill. We learned so much about the mechanics of CPR, how to recognize signs of cardiac arrest, and the proper steps to take in an emergency. The knowledge we gained during that session was invaluable. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than everyone’s health and well-being as they head home.”

After such a successful Safety Week we are already looking at how to make next year’s event even more engaging and impactful. Thank you for giving us some time to share what Avery Weigh-Tronix is doing for our team here in Fairmont Minnesota!
