Avery Weigh-Tronix employees break Guinness World Record

As part of our 200th birthday celebrations, Avery Weigh-Tronix employees took part in a milestone to remember by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most people on one scale.

To break the record, 207 employees squeezed onto a 12m long weighbridge which had been manufactured at the historic 25-acre Soho Foundry site in Birmingham, which Avery Weigh-Tronix has occupied since 1895.

The world’s first weighbridge was designed and manufactured by Avery Weigh-Tronix in 1876. A far cry from the modern weighbridges of today which are used to weigh lorries (and people on special occasions), the 1876 version was used to weigh a horse and cart!

Fun and games

The world record attempt took place during a ‘Best of British’ themed birthday party, which was held to thank our employees for their hard work and dedication over the years.

During the celebrations, in a nod to our Victorian heritage, employees were treated to vintage fairground games, traditional fish and chips and afternoon teas, and historical talks which looked back on the key milestones and innovations over our colourful 200-year history.
