Running Through the Heart of Birmingham: Avery Weigh-Tronix Takes on the 10K

Team Avery Weigh-Tronix Join the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run

On Sunday 5 May, seven colleagues from Avery Weigh-Tronix joined thousands of runners in the heart of the city for the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run 10K. The event is a key fixture in the city’s calendar and attracts people from across the UK who come together to take on the challenge and celebrate all the best bits of Birmingham in one energetic morning.

The 10K route gave participants a chance to experience the city differently. Starting in Centenary Square, runners passed through some of Birmingham’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Jewellery Quarter, Grand Central and Digbeth, before finishing at the redeveloped Smithfield site. Along the route, spectators lined the streets offering encouragement, and music zones helped keep everyone moving with a mix of live bands and DJs.

Representing Avery Weigh-Tronix were Tony Beirne, Gary Smith, James Young, Suzanne Mellor, Scott Davies, Sarah Kennedy and Bhavna Patel. The team brought a real mix of experience and energy to the day. Tony, Gary, James and Suzanne are all familiar with running events and handled the 10K with confidence. Scott, a keen cyclist, stepped outside his comfort zone and swapped two wheels for two feet. For Sarah and Bhavna, this was their first time taking part in an organised running event, and both made a brilliant debut.

In true Avery style, there was plenty of support and encouragement in the lead-up to the race, and even more on the day. There were a few laughs along the way, including a near detour towards the half marathon route, but everyone pulled together and crossed the finish line with medals, smiles and a real sense of achievement.

The event was about more than pace or personal bests, it was a chance to do something positive, push boundaries and take on a shared challenge. Everyone involved should be proud of what they achieved, both individually and as a team.

The group are already talking about what’s next. Whether it’s signing up for another race or inspiring others to get involved, this feels like the start of something. What began as a run through the city has turned into a great story, and a reminder of what’s possible when people show up, give it their all and enjoy the journey along the way.

A huge well done to the Avery team who took part. You’ve set the pace, and we can’t wait to see where you take it next.
