The recent change in Measurement Canada’s Weights and Measures regulations is designed to reduce measurement errors and increase fairness in the Canadian marketplace.
The regulations serve to increase consumer protection from inaccurate measurements and increase the penalties for companies found guilty of non-compliance. The bill introduces mandatory re-certifications in certain market sectors. These are AMP’s or “administrative monetary penalties”. They include increased maximum fines for failure to remain in compliance.
New fines are also being put in place for repeat offenders.
