As 2018 draws to a close and plans are laid for the year ahead, it’s a good time to reflect on what’s happened over the past year... and what a year it’s been!

This year marked a milestone anniversary for Avery Weigh-Tronix as we celebrated our 200th year of innovation. We recognised now, more than ever, that we wouldn’t have reached this incredible milestone without our employees, and to thank them for their hard work and dedication over the years we threw a birthday party at our Soho Foundry site in Birmingham.

During the party the team created another company milestone, by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most peopleAvery Weigh-Tronix employees break Guinness World Record on one scale when 207 employees squeezed onto a 12m long weighbridge! The party was even covered by ITV Central News and the team had a great time trying to spot themselves when the footage was aired on the news that evening.

We were also humbled to celebrate the long service of many of our employees – with 8 employees celebrating 25 years’ service and 13 employees celebrating 40 years’ service! We wouldn’t be where we are without their knowledge and experience and we want to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their commitment to Avery Weigh-Tronix.

Not ones to rest on our laurels, we continued to innovate throughout 2018, launching two new products – the Mobile Picking Solution and the Revenue Protection Solution - within the warehouse, distribution and logistics industries. These innovations offer a new approach to combatting common customer pain points within these industries, and we were honoured to receive industry recognition for both products which were nominated as finalists for three innovation awards.

Perhaps most well-known for our weighbridges, our weighbridge construction remained as strong as ever, especially if our recent day of 'Monday Madness' was anything to go by, with 17 bridges leaving our production facility in one day!

Our sister telematics brand, Exactrak, launched their new route digitisation software, Map-a-Route. The software allows local authorities to map their own winter maintenance routes and feed these routes directly to their gritter drivers. Exactrak also signed a 5-year tender to exclusively supply route navigation equipment to all Highways England gritting vehicles.

Avery Weigh-Tronix New fleet of service vansThrough our unique Uptime Select™ service plans, we continued to build relationships with our existing customers and welcomed new, key customers within many industries, including recycling and waste management.  And to ensure we delivered the best possible customer experience, we invested in new equipment for our service technicians, and rolled out a fleet of top-of-the-range service vans.

Finally, we were once more reminded of our historic routes during the First World War Centenary with the launch of new book; ‘The Power of Balance’ by historian Andrew Lound. The book focuses on how the men and women of Avery contributed during the war years. Although at times the book was hard to read, it offered a fantastic look at the team spirit and determination of our predecessors.

We would like to thank all our customers, suppliers, distributors and employees and wish you all a happy and restful Christmas. We look forward to working with you all again in 2019!
