Avery Weigh-Tronix hit a significant safety milestone during August; achieving a million working hours without a lost time accident at their Birmingham Head Office.

Mike Scott, Vice President and General Manager, commented; “As a company, we strive to provide a safe working environment for our team members. The fact that we’ve hit this milestone demonstrates how seriously our team takes safety – especially those in high-risk areas. Everyone has played their part.”

Over the past 12 months, the company, which specialises in the manufacture and supply of industrial weighing equipment, has implemented a number of programmes designed to improve Health and Safety, reduce accidents and monitor performance closely. From group improvement projects and general health and safety awareness training, to their ‘spot it, sort it, report it’ initiative, which encourages staff to be vigilant at all times.

Safety paramount during customer visits

As well as head office focussed projects, Avery Weigh-Tronix is committed to ensuring complete commitment to health and safety when visiting customer sites to install, calibrate and repair weighing equipment.

Maureen Bott, Product Manager for Service, explains, “With 200 service technicians visiting thousands of customer sites all over the country, we simply cannot afford to cut corners when it comes to safety. Our Safe Contractor, Safe Pass, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) certifications are indicative of our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of both our staff and our customers.”

Safety first

Mike concluded, “We have done a lot of work in this area to ensure that our culture is ‘safety first’. I’d like to thank everyone for the hard work and contribution to this accomplishment and look forward to building on the achievement and working towards the next milestone.”
