The theme of the 2016 conference will be 'Bigger Ships, Greater Challenges', with two days of conference sessions built around a central question: how do stakeholders along the cargo chain maintain - and indeed, improve - safety, security & operational efficiency at a time of rapidly escalating ship sizes and greater concentrations of cargo, both at sea and on land?
With the forthcoming changes to the SOLAS legislation, which require all containers have a verified weight certificate before being loaded on to a ship, the conference is a timely opportunity for industry stakeholders and regulators to discuss issues surrounding container weighing, SOLAS legislation, operational safety and productivity in end-to-end cargo operations.
Stewart Campbell, Manager of the Logistics Division at Avery Weigh-Tronix, commented, “As ICHCA members, we recognise the value they add in helping to inform, educate, and shape the industry and improve cargo handling safety and efficiency worldwide. By attending the conference we hope to share our technical expertise when it comes to weighing options and also look forward to being involved in dialogue and debate about the various issues facing the industry, so that we can better support their changing needs.”
