Automatic Passenger Counting

The APC4000 supplies a variety of information in real time for the purpose amongst other things of determining operating variables that impact on the quality of service and the overall efficiency of any Metro or MTR network.

The operating variable obtained from the system that is of most interest is passenger demand: the calculation for which is based on an average passenger weight determined through first hand studies carried out in the local region.

Other operating variables determined by the system are passenger density (taking into account individual passenger car capacities for seating and standing passengers), frequency, interval between trains, the percentage occupation of the rolling stock and the transport supply. This information is supplied in different forms on a network basis or for each train.

The most significant characteristics of this system are the consistent dynamic repeatability of the measurements and the low error rate among them.
